Warm reception at St John Rigby College

Receptionists at St John Rigby College in Wigan have given a warm welcome to their new state-of-the-art entrance, part of a £3.5 million makeover.

GEZE UK, the leading manufacturer of door and window control systems, has installed bespoke door control products, which help to maintain the temperature in the front and rear lobbies.

The crucial challenge was in the main entrance, where the circular design and space constraints meant that a bespoke solution had to be developed. Experts at GEZE added a heater to its popular Slimdrive SCR automatic door controls so the temperature for the college’s receptionists remains constant and comfortable.

The impressive circular design incorporates two sets of doors and the slim design of the heater and SCR matches the architect’s vision of an aesthetically pleasing, impressive, entrance.

Two Slimdrive SL’s were also fitted to the rear entrance, creating a lobby where only one door opens at a time, saving energy by preventing cold air from rushing in from outside – or from cool air going out if the air conditioning is on.

Adam Scott at AD Architects, who was responsible for the project, said: "We worked with St John Rigby College and GEZE UK to provide a cost effective solution, which met our requirements for a large, clear opening. We’re pleased with the way GEZE has incorporated an air curtain as well as providing minimal intrusion to the glass facade."

Technical director at GEZE Simon Bowden, added: “We’re delighted to help St John Rigby College solve their entrance issues by providing door closing solutions that are not only inconspicuous, but help to save valuable heating and cooling energy and ensure that this key area in the building is pleasant to work in.

“Both the Slimdrive SCR and SL’s are well-tested automatic door operators and helped to transform the college’s entrances into functional portals with smooth opening actions.”
